Portrait of Hiroshi Inoue
President and Chief Technical Officer
Hiroshi Inoue brings 26 years of experience in instrument development to his position at Canon U.S. Life Sciences — 20 of which were spent at Canon. During his career, Inoue led numerous development projects, including the development and market introduction of novel flat-panel display devices, and the introduction of the ISO/IEC Standard into MPEG-4 (a key standard for enabling movies on mobile phones).
Inoue was the first Japanese Co-Chairman of MPEG System Group. In his most recent role, Inoue led Canon’s Nucleic Acid Chip project. During his three years in this role, he was responsible for the development of several key technologies underlying the Canon NAT chip.
Under his leadership, the Canon NAT group was the co-recipient of a grant from the Japanese government’s NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization), to create a working DNA-based system for cancer analysis in clinical settings. Inoue is an alumnus of the Engineering Science School at Osaka University (1977), and is the registrant of 135 Japanese and American patents. He is a member of the Information Processing Society of Japan, and the American Association of Clinical Chemistry.
